メイフラワー　イングリッシュ　スクールは１９８７年、教える教材もまだほんの少ししか手に入らない当時から英語圏のうたや教材を研究し、そうした成果を同じ児童英語教師たちに公開しながら、music & movement を英語の早期教育に積極的に取り入れ、日本の子供たちに英語を学ぶ楽しさとコミュニケートできる喜びを伝えてきました。今では一才半のトドラーからシニアの方々までたくさんの生徒の皆さんが明るくゆったりとした一軒家の環境の中でネイティヴ教師たちと生きた英語を楽しく学んでいます。英語を話したくなる雰囲気を大切に、暖かな教室作りに心を配っています。

日本の大学や学校で長年教鞭をとり言葉や文化への豊かな知識と熱意を持ったメイフラワーの責任者であるイギリス人のVernon Pilgrim　(ヴァーナン　ピルグリム)　をはじめ、選りすぐった欧米の教師たちや日本人のスタッフ全員、皆様といっしょに英語、英会話の楽しく充実した時間を過ごせますよう心からお待ちしています。

This is what we are. This is what we do.

We have always used music and movement at the core of our programme to help our young learners of English. When they start learning more formally, they find this a big help in speaking English naturally. This is one thing we have learned in our many years as an English school, beginning in 1987, right where we are now in Senzoku.

We believe that learning English is not all about passing tests or memorizing grammar and long vocab lists. The kids will get enough of that at school. What we want to do is give them the ability to speak the language naturally, with meaning, with both body and face expression, and with confidence. With children, practically the only sane way to do this is to make sure their lessons are happy ones. Even when we are teaching the children to read and write properly, which is something we are very keen on, the same basic idea of Learning with Fun applies. We want their classes at Mayflower to be a collective experience they will look back on fondly and with appreciation when they are grown up.

This is where our teachers come in. We choose our teachers with extreme care, looking first at their personality, but then at their scholastic background. Obviously, not everyone is the same; but what we really like to see is a bright, cheerful personality and a sense of humour, things which will rub off on our pupils.

When the children get a bit older, their needs are different, so we concentrate on getting them to structure sentences correctly and to speak out clearly and confidently, so that eventually they will be able to communicate with, and be understood by, anyone who happens to speak to them in English. Nevertheless, even while we are teaching reading and writing or grammar, we don't lose sight of the lighter side of life. Such lessons can also be enjoyable.
